Hoi An, Vietnam - 16 and 17 March 2018

Friday, the last day :-( is a gorgeous 28 degree day. After breakfast, got a bike and rode back to An Bang. After leaving the bike with the ladies who look after it all day for VND10,000 (A$0.56), tried a different place to sit in front of. The deal is, you can sit at their lounges and beach umbrellas all day, as long as you buy food, which I did. Iced coffee, beer and lunch.

Lunch...

Riding back via vegetable plots...

Back to town for a body massage and then dinner at Morning Glory, which had also been recommended.

Next day got a taxi to airport for my flight back to HK. Great holiday.

Hoi An, Vietnam - 14 and 15 March 2018

Random cafe in a backstreet...

After buffet breakfast in the hotel, walked to the Old Town and had an iced coffee, near the Japanese Bridge...

Then got a bike from the hotel, and rode to An Bang beach via some rice paddies...

Lunch at the beach and then rode back to hotel.

Walked into town and had a full body massage. Then caught a Grab to a restaurant that had been recommended - The Red Dragon. Food was fantastic and the bill for 2 people for 3 courses, 2 beers and a bottle of French wine, was A$55 !

Entree was tofu and mango...

Duck...

Mango and sticky rice...

Creme brulee...

Thursday was overcast so we rode a different way, over what the concierge described as the "Iron Bridge" to a village. It actually turned out to be quite large and we rode around for a couple of hours. Loved being in what feels like the 'real' Vietnam.

Obligatory temple...

Loved the stable in the front yard...

He's feeding the bullock...

Stopped for a local coffee here...

It was served like this and the old lady then poured the condensed milk into the coffee for us. The other cup is like a ginger flavoured water...

It was VERY strong...

View from the cafe...

Back in Hoi An...

Went and had a drink at a different bar. Then street food for dinner. After that had an iced coffee, then sat in a different bar, listening to a band.

From the bar...

Trying ridiculously cheap beer. VND15,000 (A$0.85). It was just okay. I prefer Larue.

Many people walk around town with banana or watermelon shirts.

Coffee VND27,000. Most places are VND20,000...

Old Town again, with the lanterns on the river. We at least saw them being collected the next morning. I had visions of a lantern island somewhere downstream !

Attractive hotel in the tourist area...

Hoi An, Vietnam - 12 and 13 March 2018

Activity week at school means the kids get to go somewhere glamorous. This year, Eliza has gone skiing in Japan and Callum has gone to Chiang Mai. So we decided to go to Hoi An.

Only a 1.5 hour flight from Hong Kong to Da Nang on Air Asia which was fine. Hotel had arranged a transfer and about 30 minutes later we were at the hotel, Silk Luxury Boutique Hotel.

Walked to the old town which is close and very pretty at night...

Had dinner at this rooftop bar / restaurant...

There are lanterns everywhere which makes the whole town look fantastic...

Next day after free hotel breakfast, went for a walk back to the old town. And yes they really do wear these hats...

The town looks a lot shabbier in the daytime...

The famous Japanese Bridge...

View from the hotel room...

Caught the hotel shuttle to An Bang beach and spent the day there...

Back into Hoi An for dinner...

Japanese Bridge...

Rooftop bar listening to good music...

Walking back to hotel. Hoi An is not a late town...
