Bangkok - March 2026

I thought I'd head home from Singapore via Bangkok. So on Friday afternoon I caught a Scoot flight to Bangkok. Easy two hour flight. The arrivals hall was packed but I know where the APEC queue is, so I headed there and got straight through...

Caught the Airport Rail Link (ARL) to Makassan and then the subway to Silom. I'm staying at my favourite hotel, Ibis Styles as I like the area and the rooftop pool.

I checked in and had a swim in the rooftop pool...

and a complimentary welcome drink...

This is the view from the pool deck...

I will go for a drink at Ojo tomorrow night which is on 76/F of Mahanakhorn Tower, the tall building to the right...

You can see it from all over Bangkok...

Then I went for a massage and headed to Mango Tree for dinner. I had the special margarita which was excellent. So I had another one...

Chicken and cashews...

This was my entre and it was SPICY...

After dinner I went to Vesper, one of my favourite bars which is nearby.

I had the 'Parakeet'...

And another one of the house specials...

Saturday morning I got up and headed to Wat Paknam which I'd always wanted to see. I got a thai milk tea from outside my building for THB30 (A$1.37)...

I caught the blue line and then walked about 15 minutes. It's early but pretty hot already.

This building is within the complex...

Back view of the buddha...

Inside the white building...

I then walked to a cafe I'd read about with a great view of the buddha. the walk was short and I saw a few more interesting things on the way. Reclining buddha by the khlong...

Here's the view from the cafe...

It's a lovely morning and I'm enjoying the energy...

They had no food so I then got back on the blue line and headed to Lumphini, to Sarnies One Bangkok which is a chain I have been to before, with an Australian-style brunch. One Bangkok is an office complex in Lumphini and I was itnerested to see it as it is one of the offices we are considering for our new premises. It's very modern...

I walked back to the hotel and had a nap.

That night I went to Ojo which I booked for 1730 to see the sunset. It's only a 15 minute walk from my hotel. It's on 76/F of this building...

You get escorted in a special lift to 76/F and I was then shown to a table on the terrace.

Ojo is the highest restaurant/bar in Thailand. The view really is stunning...

I ordered a margarita and some guacamole and chips...

I looked down one floor which is where people pay to come up and see the view...

I then walked back to Silom and sat in a bar there...

The next morning I found a new breakfast place very near where I was last night.

I had the Australian breakfast...

I then went to a Japanese Onsen I know which was across the road from the cafe. Then walked back, had a massage and checked out. Spent about an hour by the pool before catching a Grab to the airport.

There's no Qantas lounge here and the Qatar Lounge was closed, so I went to the Cathay lounge and had some food. They closed at 1845 so I move to the Oman lounge until my flight was called. It was two hours late leaving but only 30 minutes late landing.

Landing into an overcast Sydney...
