Bangkok - November 2024

Flew from Hong Kong around the middle of the day on Friday. Easy flight on Hong Kong Airlines and immigration at Suvarnabhumi was the quickest I've ever experienced. Luggage came out okay and we got into a taxi quite easily.

Then the fun began...we hit Friday night traffic on our way to Sukhumvit...two hours later, we arrived at the Westin Grande.

We are staying here for the first night on Marriott Bonvoy points. Room was nice and large and we headed out to dinner.

After dinner we got a massage and headed back to the hotel.

Saturday morning we walked to a place I know for breakfast. It's called Sarnies and is Australian, On the way back we had a look at Terminal 21, a big shopping centre. I found it a bit overwhelming so we left. We then had a swim at sat by the pool...

We then got a Grab to Ibis Styles Silom where we are staying for the next few nights. I've stayed there before and really like it.

We went and had a walk and got street food for lunch...

The kids arrived late afternoon. I had arranged a car to pick them up from the airport. After a quick rest, we headed to a restaurant nearby I had scoped out earlier.

The "wine" menu made me laugh...

Sitting in the lobby looking at the lifts...

The next morning Alex arrived from Munich and we had breakfast in the hotel which was surprisingly good for a 4 star hotel. Then we went for a walk to Lumphini Park which wasn't far.

The kids went on the paddle things which were free. Alex and Eliza...

Jason and Callum...

It's a lizard...

That night we went to Mango Tree for dinner which is a restaurant I know well. After dinner we went to a gay bar nearby for a drag show. It was really fun. This is Britney...

Callum was a hit...

The next day we met for breakfast as usual and then did our own thing. I had a massage and a coffee at my favourite cafe...

Did a workout at the gym a couple of days...

View from the gym...

The next night we went to another bar I know called Jack's Bar which is very basic and right on the river...

Timer selfie...

The food was great. We had a bit of an issue as we didn't have enough cash, but we pooled resources and left. We decided to walk back to the hotel.

The next morning, we caught the Skytrain to the river and a local boat to Icon Siam.

The food court was incredible...

And I bought a Thai Milk Tea...

Amazing range of food...

We then caught another boat up to the temple precinct. The kids weren't interested in the temples but I wanted to walk around. It's pretty hot...

We then caught the subway back to the hotel.

For our last night, we went to another bar I know called the Eagles Nest to watch the sun set over Wat Arun. We caught the subway...

And walked past the temples...

The bar was packed so we went to ground level and found another bar with an equally good view.

Then we got on the subway again and went to Chinatown for dinner. It was packed but we had some nice street food...

Museum Siam...

I bought some mango sticky rice and we went back to the hotel and ate it by the rooftop pool...

The next morning I had arranged a van to take us to the airport for our domestic flight to Koh Samui. We checked into our flight on Bangkok Airways and waited in the lounge for the 50 minute flight.

Goodbye Bangkok...

Hong Kong - November 2024

Arrived in Hong Kong in the afternoon after an easy flight on Cathay. Easy through immigration and they have finally done away with the paper landing cards! Caught an Uber to the Harbourview Renaissance in Wan Chai where I usually stay.

Took my colleague Dylan to The Optimist for dinner.

The next day we had conference all day, followed by dinner at an Italian place nearby where I have been many times. Then we caught an Uber to Central and went to a rooftop bar that I had not been to, called Cardinal Point...

That's my old office building on the left...

We then walked through Landmark to see the Christmas setup...

And then Uber back to Wan Chai.

The next day I had breakfast with my colleagues and then headed to the airport for my flight to Bangkok. Very quick visit!

Singapore - November 2024

Had to go for a work trip to run a partner conference. Flew business class on Friday. Sydney Airport was jammed but I went straight to the First Class Lounge as usual and had breakfast.

Boarded on time. All set in my seat with Qantas pjs, champagne and sleeping tablets!

Easy flight to Singapore and I was out very quickly and into a Grab. For the weekend I am staying at the Marriott Tang for the first time which is on Orchard Road.

Friday night I went and had dinner with my mate Ian near to where he lives. The next morning I was craving a coffee so I went next door to a place called Eggslut...

I then met a friend and we went to a cafe in Dempsey Hill called PS Harding. We had brunch sitting outside and then a walk around Dempsey Hill.

Back to the hotel for a quick swim. The weather is very overcast...

I got hungry so went and found some food...

On Sunday I hired a bike and went out to East Coast Park, which I have done before. It's a nice ride.

I stopped for food at Satay by the Bay. Unfortunately on the way back, I got a flat tyre and it started to pour. So I waited undercover while they brought me a new bike.

Sunday I tried a new bar in Chinatown...

I checked out on Monday morning and caught the MRT to the office in MBFC3. The view is always a reminder how big a port Singapore is...

Worked the day and then caught a Grab to Sentosa where we are having our conference. Checked into the Shangri-la which was nice. However it is very quiet and nothing to do there.

I had dinner in the hotel and went for a walk. It is raining again.

The next day we had the conference in one of the meeting rooms and then had dinner at a restaurant on the beach. Kicked on for drinks on the hotel bar as there's nowhere else to go.

The next morning I got up and had breakfast with my colleague Dylan. Then while he packed I went for a walk to Fort Siloso which was literally next to the hotel.

That's the Mount Faber Cable Car...

Walked back and checked out. Ordered a Grab to the Airport with Dylan for our flight to Hong Kong. Went to the Cathay lounge and waited for our flight.

Sydney - October / November 2024

Went for drinks one night at Handpicked Wines Cellar in Chippendale...

Got my mover battery replaced and got stuck into the lawn at Berkeley Vale. It was almost beyond my little mower as the grass was so thick!

Looking good after...

Had a work trip to Brisbane and caught up with an old mate, Davey...

I planted one of the roses from my mother's house in Pymble...

Bought a new house at Toukley. Now I can get my Saturday's back!

It has a lovely view...

Went up before settlement to do a pre-purchase inspection...

One night we went to see Kim Wilde at the Enmore Theatre. Great concert.

Bird's nest in our roof has damaged the eaves. Bugger...

I got it out though...

Sold the Audi which had been a fantastic car. But it was 10 years old so time for an update.

Bought a Merc. Love it.

Took it for a spin to Freshwater...

Brisbane - October 2024

Quick trip to Brisbane for work. Flew Monday afternoon. Caught the train from Wynyard which is the easiest way to get to the airport...

7D is about as far forward as I can get with my Platinum status...

This is my new wifi connector so I can listen to movies through my Airpods...

Met my mate Dave for dinner in Paddington at an Italian place called Elementi...

The next night we had a work dinner at Greca, one of the restaurants under the Storey Bridge. It was a lovely night as I walked there...

Worked in the office the next day before heading to the office in the afternoon.

This is the snack on Qantas when it's not dinner time...

Sydney airport was busy. Got picked up and taken home. Easy.

Umina Renovation - July 2026

After 20+ years of ownership, we decided to give our Umina Beach house a major renovation.  I didn't take a before pic of the front but ...
