Palermo, Sicily - Wednesday 21 June 2023

Had breakfast on the terrace again. A great selection of cakes and croissants...

Went for a walk to see some sights today. First stop, Palermo Cathedral...

This was only the morning walk...

Then walked to the city gate...

Then wandered aimlessly towards the port. Lots of nice buildings on the way...

Santa Maria della Catena near the port, which was built between 1490 and 1520...

The port was nothing special...

Headed back to the old town...

I kept walking past this waffle place...

Walked through a food market. These are the olives!

Piazza Ruggero Settimo, an important central piazza...

Then had lunch. I ordered the beef carpaccio and it was nice but there was a lot of meat :-)

Did some emails in the afternoon and had a nap.

Palermo, Sicily - Tuesday 20 June

Got up and had breakfast on the terrace...

Today is a beach day. Caught an Uber to Mondello Beach, about a 30 minute drive. The public beach is very crowded...

Paid EUR17 for a seat in one of the private areas...

The water is lovely...

Uber back to Palermo. This is the Greek Theatre...

Stopped for happy hour...

So many beautiful buildings. Piazza San Domenico...

Sicily - Catania to Palermo via Taormina - Monday 19 June

Had a coffee and croissant and headed to the car park to pick up the car. Drove north to Taormina. Narrow roads were challenging. This is just near to the hotel from White Lotus but I couldn't get a good pic of it.

Parked the car and walked throught this park into the town...

The only sight was the Greek Theatre so paid EUR18 to walk through...

Taormina is a lovely town...

That pink building might be the White Lotus hotel?

Got back in the car and drove down to the beach. It's very busy there and hard to park. Went for a swim at a rocky beach at Isola Bella.

Back on the road again. The landscape isn't done justice by this photo...

Then back in the car and drove to Palermo. Dropped off the car and walked 20 minutes to the Airbnb. 

This is Piazza Bellini and very close to the apartment.

Unpacked and went for a walk. Got hungry so had dinner. The stuffed squid was good but a few too many breadcrumbs...

Walked back to the apartment. It's a nice night.
