After a walk around Innsbruck Alex drove us about 40 minutes to Kuhtai.
At 2,020 metres it is one of the highest resorts in Europe. For comparison, Whistler Village (the last time I was in the snow) is about 570 metres.
It was getting dark so I checked into the Lisl Hotel. Great room, modern and spacious with a view of the slopes.
Great view over the chairlift...
I met Alex at the fancy hotel where she stays and where we will eat dinner each night. We had a drink in the bar and then a nice dinner in the restaurant.
The next morning I woke up to a beautiful albeit cold morning. This is the view from my balcony..
I had a great breakfast in my hotel and then met Alex at hers. I learned a German saying "there is no such thing as cold weather, just bad clothes"...
We got some sleds from the hire place and walked a bit up the hill. It was quite tiring, given the snow and the altitude.
It's a beautiful day which is the norm apparently. I haven't enhanced my photos. View from the top...
My first time sledding and it was great fun. At the bottom we went to the Alpen Rose, which is another Gerber hotel. The Gerber's are the family that Alex works for. We had a coffee then headed out to see the igloos. Amazing.
You can stay in one of the rooms and there's a bar. We had a drink and a schnapps.
That drink was not alcoholic! (the schnapps after might have been)...
We walked back and dropped our sleds off, and went to the restaurant for lunch. Bread dumplings in a broth. Tasted great and very filling.
After lunch, we went upstairs to see the rooftop pool. It's amazing - it goes 360 degrees around the rooftop bar. We will come back later for a swim as it's only open in the evening.
I went back to my room for a rest and tried the sauna in the hotel. It's amazing. Lots of saunas and a steam room. This is the view from the relaxation room so I sat here and read a book.
Later on, I met Alex back at the roof bar and we swam at the pool. It's lovely and warm in but your head gets cold quickly!
After dinner in the hotel we headed to the Alpen Rose to meet some of Alex's friends...
Sunday morning up and ready for another day...
This is the lobby of the nice hotel. It's really nice and this photo doesn't do it justice...
After breakfast we met and went for a walk to the end of the town and through the snow which was nice.
This is the staff hotel, where Alex stayed last year...
Alex has to work today so I took my laptop to a cafe and had a strudel. It was huge...
That afternoon I spent some time in the spa / relaxation room then met Alex for dinner. After dinner we went for a drink at a bar that I'd seen the night before. It was nice. We had one drink and retired.
This is a great shot of the sledding trail lit up at night...
Good morning from my room, as I pack...
Alex picked me up, and drove me to Innsbruck station so I could catch the train to Munich.
We dropped the kid she looks after off at school and headed to an Italian cafe for a coffee.
I had a fantastic weekend!
