Valencia, Spain - Friday 30 May 2025

 Friday morning I woke up and found a nice cafe using my Coffee Trip app.

As I walked back I found a nice church...

I really like the architecture here...

Then I walked to the church of Saint Nicholas. I had to queue and pay EUR11. It's very beautiful and is know as the Sistine Chapel of Spain...

Then I stopped for an Aigua de Valencia the local drink which is a base of cava, with orange juice, gin and vodka!

I then had tapas at a place on the corner of my street. The food was good, except the razor clam was served in a can! Lazy preparation. And it was the most expensive thing I ate at EUR8.70!

After lunch I caught a taxi to the beach which cost EUR11. 

Had a swim then caught the bus back to town. Had a nap and headed out to dinner. The food here is really of a high quality. This burrata salad was excellent...

And the squid was superb...

Another day done!

Valencia, Spain - Thursday 29 May 2025

Woke up Thursday and headed out for a Spanish breakfast - tostada...

Walked through the market and had some churros and a freshly squeezed ornage juice...

There are bikes available for rent so I got one. Great system where you use an app to unlock them and you can drop them off at many locations and then take another one. I paid EUR3.99 for a day.

I rode along the Turia to the art museum...

Dropped the bike off and found a paella restaurant. Valencia is the hone of paella so I tried it a few times. There was a set menu...

Unlocked another bike and headed back to the apartment. Really nice tree-lined streets...

In the afternoon I had a nap then went for a massage. There were helicopters overhead so I went to the main square to find out what was going on. Apparently there's a demonstration each month against the city council for poorly managing a flood last year where over 200 people died...

It get's dark about 9:30pm and it's nice and warm. About 8pm I headed out for dinner. Then back home for an early night.

Valencia, Spain - Wednesday 28 May 2025

Flew from Hong Kong to Madrid on Cathay. Fourteen hours so a pretty lng flight. 

I cleared customs quickly and made my way to the train station. Caught the local train to Charmatin station then got on the high speed train to Valencia...

I wanted to try somewhere else in Spain and Valencia is highly regarded, and Spain's 3rd largest city. A comfortable two hour trip on Iryo which is one of the better train companies.

Arrived in Valencia and walked ten minutes to my AirBnb. I had chosen it based on the appearance of the building and the little balcony...

I dropped my bags and went for a walk. Centro Mercado is very close...

I am staying in the old town and there are many beautiful buildings everywhere. This is the Silk Exchange...

I continued to walk around to get my bearings which is what I like to do in a new city. The weather is beautiful...

I spotted this nice looking cafe for tomorrow...

I walked up to the Turia Gardens which are an old riverbed. The river was diverted many years ago and it is now a beautiful park...

For dinner I had been recommended a restaurant near the port called Casa Montana. It's hard to get into so I had booked in advance. Great food. This is the squid...

Ubered back to my AirBnb. Great first day.
